Description:
Mr. Toad came to Pug Rescue from the shelter in June of 2009. His prognosis was poor, as he has severe breathing issues caused by a collapsed larynx. He also has a thyroid condition, a high blood cell count, and arthritis in his back. When Mr. Toad came to Pug Rescue, it was thought that his time was very limited - perhaps a few weeks at most. Realizing that most people find it difficult to care for an older dog with so many medical issues and special needs, Suzi took him to her house so he could hang out with her gang for the remainder of his life. Well, despite the odds, Mr. Toad is still hanging out at Suzi's and doing fairly well. He loves all the attention he gets from the kids, and enjoys snuggling in bed every night. Mr. Toad is now very much part of the family. He is on meds three times a day, but because of his many medical conditions, he can not be neutered or have his teeth cleaned as his little body can not handle any anesthesia. Mr. Toad will not be available for adoption because at this point, moving him would simply be too stressful for him. Instead, he will remain in the care of Pug Rescue, lovingly fostered by Suzi. It takes a special person to take on a "Forever Foster", but we, and Mr. Toad, are certainly glad that Suzi was willing to open her heart and home to this special little guy. On the evening of 4/12/10, Mr. Toad crossed the Rainbow Bridge. His medical issues became too severe and his quality of life was deteriorating. He was in the arms of his foster mom when he left, and he knew that he was loved. We are grateful to Suzi and to Pug Rescue for taking this little man on and making his last months enjoyable ones. Rest easy, Mr. Toad.
