This is sweet Etta Mae. Etta Mae came to Pug Rescue after her owner dropped her off at the shelter and told them she was crazy and was chewing herself to bits. Well, Etta is far from crazy, she was suffering from a terrible infection, and had open, oozing wounds all over her back legs, and in some places, you could see through to her bones. When our volunteer picked her up, poor Etta was bleeding and leaking fluids from her many wounds, enough that the car and our volunteer's clothes were soaked by the time she got Etta to the vet. Even though Etta's paws were raw and bleeding, she gamely tried to stand on the concrete, but it hurt her too much to walk, so she was, of course, quickly picked up and carried in.
Our wonderful veterinary team put Etta on IV antibiotics, and she responded well. She had surgery to close the wounds on her legs, and she is currently in a very dedicated foster home where they are tending to her medical needs, which include regular bandage changes, weekly trips to the vet, and daily medications. The bandage changes are very painful, but Etta tolerates them and even kisses her foster parents after her bandages are replaced. What a sweet, sweet girl. Etta will likely require another surgery to fully repair her back legs, but once she heals from that, we hope that she will be able to once again enjoy life.
Etta Mae is a sweet, dear girl, and has graciously handled all of her procedures, and seems very grateful for our help and care. Etta will be available to meet potential families once she is fully recovered from all her surgeries, but that may be a while, as her wounds were extensive, and it will take time for them to heal. For now, she is flourishing in the care of her loving foster home. Please consider donating a few dollars so that we can pay for Etta's care, she is just one of the many reasons we work so hard to rescue these dogs. |
