Description: Say hello to tiny Andy. Andy comes to Pug Rescue from the shelter in Bakersfield, and he has not had an easy life. He is exhibiting behaviors that tell us he has been a stray for a long time. Andy does get along well with other dogs and cats, and adores children. He likes to be on someone's lap, and appreciates some good cuddle time. However, he also startles easily, and tries to find the highest place to be so he can observe his surroundings, no doubt a habit from being a "wild Pug" for so long. That is likely how he stayed safe. Andy did come to Pug Rescue with fleas, and has some flea allergies and hair loss due to that - his skin is already looking better and clearing up. He is blind in his right eye, and his left eye is going. He will always need eye drops to keep his eyes healthy, but his sight will likely be completely gone soon. Andy has been living with limited sight for a long time, and is very well adjusted to it, he plays, runs, and walks well on a leash. In fact, most people who meet him don't even realize he's blind. This may be part of the reason he startles easily, but that is doubtful. Blind dogs adapt very well to their environments, Andy's issues are much more likely a result of being a stray for so long. Andy also is very thin, but his foster mom is giving him lots of extra meals to get him back to proper Pug physique. He has a slight head tilt, we are not sure why yet, and his back is pretty arched. Again, this doesn't seem to impact his health, and may just be a result of malnutrition. Andy is a wonderful, loving little dog, but he is going to need lots of help learning that his world is safe and that he actually has his own family to trust and care for him. Perhaps you are that family? |
