Description:
This is Mia. Mia came to Pug Rescue after she got into a fight with a Doberman and, well, lost. Mia's eye came out of the socket and her owners took her to the pet emergency center and left her to be euthanized as they were unable to afford the extensive surgery that was needed. Pug Rescue was called to help her out, since other than a badly injured eye, she is a healthy little girl. Pug Rescue bailed her out, and got her to our vet for surgery. Her eye has been sewn shut so it can heal, and we are not sure yet whether she will be able to see out of that eye once the sutures are removed. So far, Mia has not been getting along so great with her foster siblings, but she did just suffer a major dog attack, so she is likely still very traumatized, and certainly in some pain. Right now, we are keeping her quiet and isolated so she can rest and recover. We think she may need to be an only dog, but will update her bio as we learn more about her. She is certainly going to need a patient home, and someone willing to help her learn to get along with other dogs, and help her get over any fears she may developed. Update 10/29/10 - Unfortunately, Mia had to have surgery to have her damaged eye removed today. Even though her foster family was diligent about putting meds in, keeping her quiet, and following all of our vet's instructions perfectly, Mia's cornea was deteriorating, and the decision was made to remove her eye. In better news, she is getting along well with her foster siblings now, and her stress levels are dropping. She is not so protective of food around the other dogs now, and her foster Dad is teaching her tricks! Mia is a very smart girl, and loves to learn new things! She loves to go for rides in the car, and she loves to be with her foster mom as much as possible. She's a great little lap dog! We think that, given time, she will do okay in a home with other dogs, but there may be an adjustment period. She still needs to work on her manners with strange dogs, and gets defensive. But we are encouraged that she is blending well with the pack in her foster home. She is learning to sleep in a crate at night, and doing well with that. Keep an eye on Mia's profile for updates as she recovers from surgery! Update 12/15/10 - Mia is off medical hold and is now available to meet new families! Mia is doing well in her foster home, and is very playful with the other Pugs. She has been to several dog parks, and enjoys playing with the other dogs. Mia's family has been working with her quite a bit, teaching her rules and manners, and she has responded very well. She's a smart, sweet little girl, who is just hoping to find the right home for the holidays. Mia's holiday wish is to find her forever family - maybe it's you?

New Beginning: Well, it looks like our girl Mia has finally found a perfect forever home! Congrats to Mia and her new family!
