Medical condition: Broken jaw, recent hip and knee surgery |

Introducing Nena. Nena was relinquished to the shelter by her owner along with her four week old puppies after she had been hit by a car. A Pug Rescue volunteer pulled Nena from the shelter on a Saturday afternoon and rushed her to the Pet Emergency Center in La Mesa where she was quickly evaluated and given medical support. Nena's jaw was broken in two places and had to be fed via a syringe. She had a dislocated hip as well as a luxating patella. Nena was placed in the oxygen tent and given heavy pain medication until surgery was possible. The surgeon was able to repair the jaw, hip and knee. They also corrected her nose and palate to help her breathe easier. She was spayed during this same surgery so she would not have to undergo any further anesthesia. Nena lost several teeth when the jaw was broken. Nena is now resting in the comfort of a foster home where she will be confined to a crate for at least the next eight weeks. Any physical activity would jeopardize the surgery and her ability to walk. Nena is a gentle trusting soul and loves to snuggle with her foster mom. She nuzzles her head under her foster mom's chin and gives occasional thank you kisses. Nena is a petite girl and a little thin considering she just had puppies. Her fur is a beautiful light shade. She is potty trained. The shelter informed us that all of her puppies have been adopted.Nena is on MEDICAL HOLD and is not available for adoption. We will update this page and Facebook to keep you informed on her long recovery. The medical expenses for Nena are $5000. Please consider donating on her behalf. We are hoping she feels well enough to attend the Pugs N Kisses Wine & Cheese Fashion Show. 02/02/12 UPDATE: Nena thoroughly enjoyed her interview with KUSI this morning. She is now placing weight on her leg and walking a bit. The swelling in her face has subsided and she becomes more adorable each day. We have had several wonderful applications to adopt Nena so we are changing her status to adoption pending. Nena thanks those who has been able to contribute towards her tremendous medical expenses and wished her well. She looks forward to meeting everyone on Saturday at Pugs & Kisses!
