Description:
Meet Lucas!

We don't have too much information on Lucas as a simple medical file was just created for him in April. His ever loving foster did however send us a 5 page document on details of him, we did our best to reduce down!

Lucas, aka Doktor Fred Lucas, aka “The Shadow” is a special needs Pug with soft tissue nerve damage and chronic sinusitis , a heart of gold and a surprising degree of innate intelligence for a rescue dog who when he came into the system appeared to be retarded, autistic or possibly brain damaged.

Lucas is estimated at 3-4 years old! As so many Pugs that come into Pug Rescue from Shelters we have almost no prior history on him and between his Doctor and his care giver had to put together a possible history from an archeology of the present.

Prior to rescue all we know is that he was found wandering an open field in the South Bay part of the San Diego County and taken to a Shelter in Chula Vista from which he was rescued.

He has a neurological problem of knuckle walking on his front feet and dragging his back feet, and holding his back end lower than breed standard.

He is a sweatheart, a lover, but is woobly when he walks and looked like a Bobble Head Doll version of a Pug Dog. Other than his unsteady walk.

Lucas does love to snuggle and needs a human he can rely on. He also does not like being in smaller rooms, such as a bed room, with all the doors and windows closed alone or even if a human being is with him.
.
Lucas is currently in a reduced activity mode recovering from his Neutering, dental work, and an endoscopy exam to make sure the intense sinus problems he was having were not the results of a tumor or sinus polyps. As the medications he is on to relieve nerve tissue inflammation and the production of excess cerebral spinal fluid and his usual walking gait is like a Morgan Horse doing a dressage trot. Per Doctor’s orders he cannot be doing that for the duration of his recovery.

He will probably need to be on some kind of medication, daily, for the rest of his life to help him cope with this spinal soft tissue neurological damage.

Despite these Neurological problems (as well as possible chronic sinusitis) His emotional and “spiritual” pug natures are almost classic: He is incredibly loving and eager to please, and feels it is his duty to accompany one or the other of us when we go about our tasks in the house and outside.

He likes cats and does not bark at them when they come onto the property to hunt mice and rats.

Every day with Lucas is a journey of discovery of the innate Pug Essence triumphing over adversities of injury, sickness and abandonment. And the team effort to give this dog a new chance at a happy life, from his Rescuer; to all the Fosters involved along the way to his living here; his Doctor and her vet tech, and family and friends here who have given him a stable and stimulating social life.

He is a blazing Star of Joy in pug form.
