Scarlet was a stray in Chula Vista and with some hefty coordinating while Suzi was in Cabo, Robert and Anne sprung her from CV Shelter on a Sunday morning (the CV Shelter woman met them there when it was closed for business), they kept her and took her to Cuyamaca on Monday, and then John picked her up from them on Tuesday – after dropping Alexa, Kyan and me off at the airport for a week in NC. That was the last week of July, so she has been here for about 5 weeks.
When CV got her, she was flea infested, seriously anemic, had a terrible reaction to the fleas so she was all scaly and had a HUGE open sore on her hind end, she was losing her hair and STUNK, she had an elongated pallet, her mouth was rotten and she has BAD luxated patellas (both of them) and a torn ligament in one of her knees. Oh, and she has been used for breeding and was all of six pounds with bones sticking out everywhere, like Mr. Bones!
By the time Robert and Anne picked her up, I think she was around 8 pounds and the fleas were gone, but the rest (including NASTY skin) remained.
Now, she is about 12 pounds, her skin is better, her hair is growing in beautifully, she has been spayed, her pallet has been fixed, she had 14 nasty teeth pulled, her blood is fine, and while her knees will always be terrible, she has put on plenty of muscle to at least support her knees and all of her knee-parts. So I think the torn ligament is better, and while the knees pop out a lot, she doesn’t even notice. This little girl is a riot and thinks she is a puppy. And with her very petite size, she LOOKS like a puppy and has a darling double-curl in her tail. Cuyamaca has her at 7-10 years but I am telling you that I think her physiology is just rather weathered (eyes, teeth, knees) from her past life, so those beaten features make her seem older than she is. Otherwise, she is just so grateful to have a REAL pug life (as in the life all pugs SHOULD have) that she has a very young, grateful, happy spirit! Oh, and her favorite place in the world (if not on your lap) is in the baby’s vibrating bouncy chair. Check the fosters page – she is there. J

The Adventure of Bonnie and Doug
Bonnie and Doug have their own little fig tree in their back yard. Through the summer they enjoy
pulling the fig branches down and capturing the figs. They take turns pulling the fruit down and
having a snack. At the end of the summer there was one lonely fig on the tree. Doug worked tirelessly
to reach and catch the last fruit of the season. When he did get the branch to his level he licked it
but couldn't grab it with teeth, although he tried over and over again. With undaunted spirit, after a long,
long time Doug finally got it knocked off the branch. In the meantime, Bonnie was sitting on the
sidelines not interfering with Doug's diligent work. As the sweetest fig of the year fell to the
ground, Bonnie tore over and snatched it from underneath Doug. Off she went to enjoy Doug's efforts.
Bonnie is the Black Pug and Doug is the Fawn. By the way I promptly went to another Fig tree and
presented Doug with the prize he deserved and giggled at our little imp, Bonnie.

Goodbye Grace. Our little sweetheart has been more than well taken care of by her foster parents, Ingrid and Kevin. She has progressed more than anyone ever thought, however Grace was a long term foster. After hearing about her plight , Elizabeth McRae, wanted to adopt Grace. She now has a permanent, forever home with hugs and love just for her. Although Pug Rescue will miss seeing Grace at our many events we are happy she is going to have her very own Mom! Grace also has a new cart and is getting along quite well. She loves to dash around her new digs.
Originally, she was left in a mall to fend for herself. Pug Rescue scooped her up and placed her in a magnificent foster home. This family developed Grace into the little fighter that she is. You may go to You Tube to see her and how she works to take a few steps. She is a real cuddly sweetheart.

Amber has been adopted. Her foster family has done a
spectacular job caring for her and using several methods to heal her mange and keep her skin smooth
and supple as well as healthy. Amber met her new family on Saturday and is so excited about having a
forever home. She has gained weight and is just perfect to go into her loving home with her new
family. Amber is about 2 years old and has a long life ahead of her with plenty of exercise and
playtime in her future. Here is her most recent photo with her fur beginning to come in.

Ladybug was relinquished at almost 16 years old and lived the last year of her life
with foster parents Robert Henry and Anne Ainsworth. This special little dog touched the lives of so
many people and she will be missed.
Ladybug, also know as "the bug" or LB came to Pug Rescue from a
family that no longer wanted to care for a sick old pug. Her teeth were rotten, she had a bad urinary
tract infection, she was deaf in both ears, and had severe arthritis. Pug Rescue and Cuyamaca Animal
Hospital took her into their loving arms and provided the necessary medical treatments so this old gal
could be pain-free in her senior years. She found a permanent foster home with Anne and Robert and
quickly became the "toast of the town" when she went to all the Pug Rescue events and San Diego Pug
Meet-ups. Her spunky spirit, soft white fur, and funny face warmed everyone's heart. She was
introduced to everyone at the 2008 St. Pugtrick's Party and won the "Distinguished Senior" award at
the May Party 2008. She loved dressing up and always had a fancy dress or funny costume to wear. Her
last big award was "Best Look-alike" at the Pug Rescue 2008 Halloween Party which she won with her
brother Keggan and best friend Rosebud Shea in their "Octopus' Garden" cart and costumes.
Although Ladybug suffered a collapsed trachea, she recovered and all seemed well. However, just
short of her
17th birthday, she was diagnosed with a failing heart and kidneys. Ladybug passed to the Rainbow
Bridge on the morning of March 10th. She was loved and cherished and lived her last year of life
surrounded by the wonderful people of Pug Rescue of San Diego.
A heartfelt "thank you" to all who have donated in Ladybug's memory. We cherish all our senior pugs and your donation helps PRSDC care
for them when they come to us or in permanent foster care.
Please indicate that your donation is in LB's memory. Ladybug - we love and miss you.

After a valiant effort Braveheart crossed over the Rainbow Bridge February 2, 2009. We find comfort
in knowing he was held close and knew the true and pure love from his foster mom and our adoption
counselor as well as the many other care givers who were touched by his tender life. Braveheart slept
in a bed and had the joy of playing with other Pugs. Although he ate a healthy diet and was given the
best medical care he was just not strong enough to continue his journey with us. He is now in that
special garden at the Rainbow Bridge waiting for his foster mom to collect him some day. He is strong
and vital in every respect and jumping in the special playground for special needs Pugs.

Meet Allie. She is darling of the senior set. Allie is a little girl whose original family could
decided they no longer care for her since she was old. She is in a loving home with
where she can rest her paws and be loving companion. Allie enjoys just being with her foster family.
She also is happy to sit on their lap. This 15 year old girl is nearly blind and deaf but gets around
just fine. Allie will always be a long term foster. Her foster family loves her. They take
her to the Vet for needed visits and care for her daily needs. Pug Rescue of San Diego will take care
of what ever financial costs are involved for the rest of her life but we need your help to continue
to care for this sweet little girl.

Meet Earl. He is 6 years old and a real sweetie. This fellow has epilepsy that is under control
with meds. This is a very inexpensive drug to handle seizures. Other than that he is a happy
not so little man. He was relinquished to a family during the recent fires but they could not keep him.
This boy has been thru a lot. Earl gets along well with other dogs and people. Earl is incontinent
of bowel. His foster family loves and cares for him. They are truly saving his life every day because
the shelter would have put him to sleep. Earl is a long term foster. His foster family enjoys
the love they get in return from this little guy.

Hi, my name is Izzy - I am on the left. Next to me is my brother Smidley. I am a four year old
Pug who my wonderful parents adopted from Pug Rescue. When they adopted me, my spine was a little
crooked and I walked like I had been riding a horse for weeks. I also peed when I didn't mean to!
It was SO embarassing! But my Mom and Dad took me to the vet and I am pretty healthy, although I
might have to wear diapers once in awhile. I LOVE my brother and my new home. If you adopt a Pug
from Pug Rescue you MIGHT be lucky enough to get a beautiful princess like me!
