Description: Little Ozzy comes to us from a family that could no longer care for him. He is about 7 years old, and has had some back problems in that past. This was mostly solved by Ozzy losing weight - as you can see he is quite lovely at 17 lbs, but at the time he was having back trouble he was 26 pounds! That's quite a lot of weight for a little dog to be packing around. Ozzy will need to live in a home where his weight will be managed and his family not prone to over indulging him with treats. Although Ozzy says a few treats when getting to know each other is a great idea! Ozzy is potty trained, crate trained, and good with other dogs and cats. Although Ozzy seems to love the children in his foster home, because of his back issues, we think it would be best for Ozzy to go to a home with either no children or older children that will treat him gently. As long as his weight is kept low, Ozzy's back does not seem to bother him, but we certainly don't want to stress it. Ozzy needs to stay on a consistent diet, as food changes make his tummy very upset. Ozzy has lots of energy and loves to play stuffed toys, chewing them and shaking them, he also loves to go for walks. Ozzy is not always a snuggle bug, but he is learning. Some work and some training will help him continue to learn how to trust that contact is not going to be painful. It seems he has learned to be very careful about who he lets near him, and if previously, petting was causing him back pain, you can understand why. Ozzy is still sometimes worried about being touched, but is doing much better. I met Ozzy at the Pug K, and he came right up to me to say hello and get pets. He really just needs someone to be patient and loving with him. He might do very well in a home with another dog who is confident and loving, as dogs do learn by watching each other. If you'd like to be the one to give Ozzy a chance to learn how great life can be, contact us, he really does deserve a forever home of his own. Update 11/7/10 - Ozzy has come back to Pug Rescue and has been renamed Joey by his foster mom. Joey has unfortunately gained a lot of weight in his previous home, so he is now on a strict diet to get him thin again. Joey is much the same as before, he doesn't seem to mind being petted, but he often doesn't seek out attention. In the right home, this little guy will surely blossom, but it will take time and patience. He is very, very food motivated, and protective of any food in the area when other dogs are around. Joey will absolutely need some training to help him settle in to his new home, but we really feel like he will be worth the effort. 01/08/12 UPDATE: Sadly Joey has returned to Pug Rescue as his family is dealing with financial hardship. Contact us to learn how to meet Joey! |
