Description: ***AVA IS CURRENTLY RECOVERING FROM SURGERY AND NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AT THIS TIME***** Meet little Ava. Ava comes to Pug Rescue from a shady past, and luckily she found her way to us so that we could take care of her and help her have a better life. Yes, she is only two years old. The grey in her face is surely from poor nutrition, stress, and from being in constant pain. At some point, her front leg was badly injured, but she was not taken to the vet. Instead, the leg healed on it's own, and is now twisted and painful. She is also blind in one eye, because of an injury that was not tended to. Ava had her first surgery the day before Thanksgiving, and our wonderful orthopedic surgeons were able to repair about half the damage to her leg. At this point, we will have to let her heal from this surgery, see how she does on the leg, and then evaluate whether or not she will need a second surgery to get her leg useful. We really are hoping this surgery will decrease, if not eliminate, the pain in Ava's leg. Poor little girl, she did not deserve this. Because of her history, Ava is very fearful and timid, but very sweet and loving once she gets comfortable with you. Right now she is in a loving, dedicated foster home while she recovers from her surgery. She loves her foster mom, and is getting more and more confident every day. Ava's surgery comes at the end of the year, at a time when our funds are traditionally low. We need to raise money to pay for Ava's life changing surgery, which will cost somewhere around $2,000. Perhaps you can find it in your heart to donate on behalf of little Ava? Even just the cost of a cup of coffee? It is our hope that she will recover and go on to live a long, pain free, and happy life. We're depending on you to help us help Ava. Ava is not available for adoption at this time, her recovery from surgery will be about six weeks. She will be available to meet families once she is fully recovered, if she doesn't require a second surgery. Thank you for helping Ava. Update 2/20/11 - Miss Ava will be having a second surgery on her foot. The first surgery was not as successful as we had hoped it would be, so back this sweet girls for a second surgery. She's so patient and sweet, and will happily accept extra biscuits and snuggles during her recovery.
Update:2/24/11- Precious Ava had her second surgery on 2/22/11. The leg has been reconstructed using external fixators. They also discovered that she had pneumonia. She is now home recovering. It will be another ten weeks or so until she chooses her forever home. The wonderful staff at Pet Emergency Center fell in love with her sweet spirit. They didn't want to let her come home! Ava has started her physical therapy at Tinassy's K9 Splash R Cise (4/20/11). Tinassy's has graciously donated their services to help Ava regain the full use of her leg after the many months of confinement. Tara, co-owner of Tinassy's, said Ava is a natural at the swimming. Thank you so much Tinassy's for helping this girl with the rehab in her long journey to her forever home. Ava has been adopted by a wonderful senior who just lost her elderly blind diabetic pug. Miss Ava will surely be cherised and pamered as she so deserves! |
