Description: Say hello to little Winnie. Winnie comes to Pug Rescue from a rather round a bout journey - this little girl is tired of moving around and would really like to settle into a forever home. Winnie was found as a stray in San Francisco, and she was obviously nursing a litter of puppies, but they were never found. While at the shelter, her right eye became badly infected and was removed. What a stressful experience for this sweet girl. Winnie was adopted on Christmas Eve by a wonderful person who was concerned Winnie was going to be euthanized because she was not eating or drinking. Despite all efforts, Winnie did not get along with the resident two small dogs. Winnie then moved in with her adopter's mother, but she didn't do so well there, either. The decision was made to bring Winnie here to Pug Rescue, with the hope of finding her a wonderful home where she will fit in and be cherished forever. Winnie is a sweet girl, but she is understandably a bit timid these days, all of the trauma she has suffered has made her a little unsure of the world. We've learned that she does not get along well with dominant females, but so far has been fine with the more submissive female in her foster home. She can be a little protective of toys and chewies with other dogs, and loud noises or raised voices make her shake, tense up, and get low to the ground. Winnie does love to go for walks, and does very well when her foster sister goes with her - so we are thinking that Winnie would do best as an only dog but might also do very well with a canine companion that is easy going, happy, and friendly. Winnie needs to learn that the world is a safe place, and that she really is a lovable girl. Because of her missing eye, her depth perception is a bit off, so she is a bit hesitant with stairs or jumping off the couch, but once she is comfortable in her home, she should become more confident. She happily sleeps in a crate, or will stay in one when she is alone with no problem. Winnie is in great health and fairly well potty trained. She's had a few accidents while settling in to her foster home, but that's understandable, given all the upheaval in her life recently. We've also learned that Winnie is a toy hoarder! She loves to go around the house and collect toys and clothes and take them all to her bed. She doesn't chew anything up, just collects it all. How cute is she! We'd really love to see Winnie find a wonderful forever home, so if you think this girl is one you'd like to add to your family, contact us to learn how to meet her. |
